Steady

Type. Low friction on every dimension. The next move is yours.

This test scores behaviours you have experienced at work. It does not diagnose anyone. Narcissistic personality disorder is a clinical diagnosis that only a qualified mental health professional can make, and this page never uses that label for a result. Nothing here is HR, legal or medical advice. If your manager's behaviour leaves you frightened or unwell, talk to a therapist, your employee assistance programme or, in the US, call or text 988.

0Friction

This page describes the Steady result. Take the boss pattern test: what kind of boss do you have to see your own score and dimension bars here; they are drawn from the link the tool gives you and nothing is stored on this page.

Your overall friction score is under 25. No single pattern stands out, and none of the four dimensions is pulling hard. This test calls that reading Steady. It is the honest answer: this is a workable boss, and the next move is yours.

That is not the same as a perfect boss. Steady means the direction is clear enough, the room is there, credit reaches you and the weather is predictable. There will still be weeks you disagree, decisions you would have made differently and meetings that run long. That is ordinary friction. It is not a pattern.

A Steady reading changes the question. If you took this test because work feels wrong, the cause is probably somewhere else: the work itself, the deal, the team around you, or a season in your own life. The should I quit my job quiz sorts which of those it is.

A workable boss is also something you can use. Most people spend their energy managing around a difficult manager. You do not have to. Put that energy into asking for what you want next: a stretch assignment, a clearer path to promotion, more say in how the team works. A specific request with a plan behind it is the easiest thing for a workable boss to say yes to.

What to do this week. Book fifteen minutes and bring one question: what would you need to see from me in the next quarter to trust me with more? Write the answer down and send it back the same day. Then do the first thing on the list.

If your score was close to 25, read the dimension with the highest bar anyway. A mild lean today can become a pattern after a reorganisation or a new target.

What to do with this result

Both views are here. If you answered the routing question, yours comes first.

If you do not manage people

Your Monday one on one. Ask for one thing you want next, with a plan behind it: here is what I would like to own next quarter, here is why it matters to the team, and here is what I need from you.

If the friction is in your path rather than your boss, the free promotion block finder shows what stands between you and the next role.

If you manage people

Your reports could answer these same twelve statements about you. The 360 lite shows whether they would score you Steady too, and the management style quiz shows which habits keep it that way. The 5 Minute Leader is the daily version of those habits.

The link opens the test itself. Your answers and your result do not travel with it.

If this is a legal matter

Harassment and discrimination at work are legal questions, and a quiz cannot answer them. In the US, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission explains what the law covers and how to file a charge at eeoc.gov. In the UK, ACAS gives free, impartial advice at acas.org.uk. An employment lawyer can tell you what applies to you. Nothing on this page is legal advice.

The other results

  • AbsentMost friction is direction. Usually untrained, rarely indifferent.
  • ControllingMost friction is room. The how of your work is not yours.
  • Self ServingMost friction is credit. Your name does not travel with your work.
  • VolatileMost friction is steadiness. You manage a mood, not the work.
