Level. Scores 76 to 100. Strong fit for the work. Go in with a plan.

This page describes the Already Leading result. Take the should i become a manager: a 12 question fit test to see your own score and dimension bars here; they are drawn from the link the tool gives you and nothing is stored on this page.

This is a self reflection tool about whether you want the work of managing people. It is not a hiring or promotion decision tool, a personality test or a clinical instrument, and your employer should not use it as one.

Your fit score is 76 or above, and your motive points at the work. You want the people work, you can let go of the craft, and you can handle ambiguity and conflict. This test calls that reading Already Leading, because answers like yours usually come from someone who is doing much of the work of a manager already, with or without the title.

That changes the question. It is no longer whether to become a manager. It is how to start well. The first management job is where habits set, and most people start it without being taught: in a 2023 survey for the Chartered Management Institute, 82 percent of people who entered management said they had no proper management training (CMI and YouGov).

Three habits decide the first year. A weekly one on one with every report, kept when you are busy. A clear line between what you decide and what your team decides. And one hard conversation handled early, rather than a small problem left to grow. The managers who skip these are rarely bad managers. They are busy ones.

A caution. A high score describes appetite, not skill. You can want the work and still do it badly in the first months. Ask for feedback early, from the people you manage, not only from your boss.

What to do this week. If you are not a manager yet, tell your manager you want the role and ask what the path is. If you already manage people, plan your one on ones for the next four weeks and ask one report what you should do differently. The management style quiz shows which habit you lean on.

What to do with this result

Both views are here. If you answered the routing question, yours comes first.

If you do not manage people

The question to ask your manager. I want to manage people, and I think I am doing parts of the job already. What is the path here, and what would you need to see from me before the next opening?

Before you say yes. Ask how many people you would manage, what support new managers get, and what the team is struggling with now. Go in knowing the first problem you will face.

The free leadership style quiz shows which habits you already lead with, so you know what to build on.

If you manage people

If you manage people today and scored Already Leading, the appetite is not in question. If the job still feels hard, ask the other question: was your first management job bad, or is this what management is like? High appetite in a bad setup, with too many reports and no support, is how good managers burn out.

The wrong seat reading of the leader burnout test checks whether the seat is the problem. The management style quiz shows which habit you lean on. The 5 Minute Leader is the daily habit set, five minutes a day, for managers who want the first year to set the right habits.
