2. Understanding Your Purpose

Purpose is not found. It is recognized, usually in what already energizes you and what you refuse to compromise.

Presented by Martha Spalding ·

In this lesson

Purpose isn't a mystical concept you either have or don't have. It emerges from honest reflection about what energizes you, what challenges have shaped you, and what values you refuse to compromise. Through targeted reflection exercises, you'll examine patterns in what energizes versus drains you, identify themes from challenges you've overcome, and clarify the values that truly drive your choices under pressure. This isn't about finding the "right" purpose, it's about recognizing what's already there.

What you will discover

  • How purpose differs from job titles, career goals, and external achievement markers
  • Why your biggest struggles often point toward your deepest sense of purpose
  • The relationship between core values and purpose discovery
  • How to distinguish between values you think you should have and ones that actually guide your decisions

Exercise

Work through the reflection prompts: what energizes versus drains you, the themes in challenges you have overcome, and the values that held under pressure. Draft your purpose in one sentence; it does not need to be final.
